16-Year-Old Refuses to Watch Her Baby Half-Sister While Her Mom Takes a Shower: 'I Just Hate That She Keeps Having Kids.'

A teenage girl reads and listens to music instead of watching her half-sister because she's angry that her mom keeps having kids with her stepdad.

Am I the bad guy for not babysitting my half-sister?

My(F16) mom recently gave birth to her 4th child. I told her I want to live with my dad because I don't want to be a babysitter or wake up with the baby's noise or anything baby related. She refused to let me.
So yesterday she asked me to babysit while she took a shower and I said no. She said I don't get a choice so I ran outside.
She called me and said I'm an a hole and asked me ro come back but I refused and went to my dad's.
Solid-Feature-7678 At 16 you don't need her permission to live with your dad, you just need to talk to him about it.
Fearless-Mammoth-160 OP There is a court ordee
Imaginary-Angle-42 Watching the baby for long enough for mom to get a long shower isn't babysitting. And agreeing to that doesn't commit you to several hours of care giving/babysitting. Asking someone to keep on eye in the youngers is normal and keeps them safe.
A baby who needs a responsible person to watch her at all times in order for her to stay safe.
Apprehensive-Bar7378 True, but OP is a teen who probably is a bit unruly and not too pleased by her mom getting more kids with her new bf/husband
SnooPets8873 YTA she asked you to watch while she took a shower. That's not out of line. I put that in the same category and folding the laundry, putting dishes away, vacuuming and so on. If you wrote that she told you to come home straight from school every day, no extracurriculars because you'll be watching your sibling or stay home all weekend while she goes on a trip or to the spa then, yeah, I can understand this reaction.
A mom stays at a spa instead of caring for her baby, leaving her teenage daughter to do so.
Cougar-Strong91 I'm guessing there is more to it than this and that she sees this as just the tip of the iceberg based on past experience with her other siblings.
SnooPets8873 Then the post should include that. From what was actually said and not what you are making up, OP is not in the right here.
Nice_Point_9822 It's a shower not a African safari
morbidcuriosity86 This isnt babysitting. It wouldn't have k led you to watch the baby for 15 minutes while she showered. I get the feeling you "hate her having more kids" because the world doesnt revolve around you anymore. YTA
UmmmSeriously I'm not really sure that I would call it babysitting while your mom is in the house and just trying to shower, but I also understand your point sorta... Are all three of your siblings half-siblings? Or only the 4th one? I get the feeling you have some resentment that your mom has moved on with life beyond your father.
Fearless-Mammoth-160 OP No I just hate that she keeps having kids
TT-513 You don't get a say in how many kids she has. Maybe your siblings don't want a 16 year old sister who hates them, but they don't get a say either. She's not asking you to babysit, it's a shower. But as long as you don't ask her for anything like a ride or to cook you food or buy you anything outside of providing a roof over your head and basic meals it's okay I guess. Otherwise, you do things you don't like for the people who do things for you, that's how it works.
MetalMewtwo9001 ESH. She should let you live with your dad if that's what you want. But you couldn't watch the baby for the duration of a shower? That's like 30 minutes tops.
